Fashion show featuring local textile producers held at Vinska vigred
Vinska vigred, a festival of local wine, food, and music, took place on the streets of Metlika for the 43rd year this year.
Textile production also has a long-standing tradition in the municipality of Metlika. Textile industry used to be the main employer in the Metlika area, offering stability to people from whole region and also from Croatia. Clothing from Metlika was well known throughout former Yugoslavia and beyond.
Globalization, the financial crisis, and the arrival of mass-produced clothing have significantly affected this economic sector. Nevertheless, some persisted, and some brave individuals even started their own paths and are now successfully creating beautiful pieces of clothing. We can say that even though it’s different than it used to be, textile industry in Metlika is very much alive and thriving!
At this year’s Vinska vigred, Metlika-based producers presented themselves with a dance fashion show:
and we at Beti Textile Industry d.o.o. provided the models with our upcycled socks and scrunchies from Beti Upcycle^.
There is really no excuse not to dress up nicely in Metlika!
